Kudos to Capleton
Capleton must be proud of his baby, St Mary Mi Come From, as the event saw yet another successful staging recently, with some good performances from the likes of Coco T, Little John, Peter Metro Marcia, Griffiths, I Octane, Ras Penco among others. The event is definitely a big plus for the people of St Mary, St. Ann and Portland who are very supportive of it and came out it their numbers with the usual St Mary vibes. The veterans certainly delivered and the producers of the event must be commended for paying respects to so many veterans entertainers. The recipients of this important charity event should also be very happy as the entertainers came out in their numbers to support this major David House effort. Peter Metro made a most poignant point when he mentioned that there was a big hype about the gaza and the gully, but pointed out that while Capleton and Shaggy were donating millions to needy kids, the members of the gaza and the gully did not have any such charity and was looking out for themselves.
Capleton and his manager Claudette Kemp must be commended for their efforts to give back to needy communities in St Mary Portland and Kingston in the areas of education, sports and health. Corporate Jamaica must do better in it's support of this concert as the recipient are the same consumers these company target with their products. The classism must stop or we will continue to dish out crime plan after crime plan to no avail. Additionally While many gay organization’s are trying to stop Capleton (and other dancehall artists) from earning abroad, they need to stop and check his stellar efforts in alleviating the hardships faced by many children who in many cases are victims of sexual abuse in the rural and urban communities that have benefitted from his humanitarian endeavors.
From a production standpoint, the producers must realize that so many artists can’t work and this will kill the entertainment value of the presentation. At this level performing one song just won’t cut it at 1.00am. While the venue was comfortable the layout must be done in a way that it maximizes the experience of the patrons. The artist back stage has to be more comfortable as this show is now a major event on the calendar and is expected to be first rate in every aspect. At 400am when we left the venue most of the big acts were yet to appear.
